Why you should re think health insurance if you don't have it

Health Insurance is something I never thought about until my daughter’s birth didn’t go to plan and I ended up having an emergency C-section with a long hospital stay. I am lucky I had health insurance, so my daughter and I could get the treatment we needed without paying thousands of dollars in hospital bills.

Having a clean bill of health, I would further argue, is the most amazing blessing a person could ask for - so if we get sick, or a family member gets sick, it is important that we have health insurance. It protects you and your family financially in the event of an unexpected serious illness, that could be very expensive.

There’s also a link between having health insurance and better heath, generally. People that have health insurance are more likely to see a doctor and get care when they need it, as opposed to someone without health insurance. I can’t stress enough how important it is for us and our families to have!

nib health insurance have recently launched a revised “families” policy that covers GP visits and prescriptions, physio, chiro and osteo, vaccinations, traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, mental health consultations – and a few really critical things for kids and families, like speech therapy and orthodontics. This plan is great for you and your family, if you ever need to use any of these services.

nib is on a mission to make healthcare more accessible for all Kiwi families, and keep them healthy, and this plan does exactly that! Check out the nib website for more information on this plan.

And as part of that mission, this summer nib health insurance has partnered with the Well Foundation to bring you the nib check-up truck. The nib check-up truck is a mobile health care unit that will be travelling around Auckland in January, offering free health checks (including dental) to people of all ages. Everyone is welcome to have a free check-up, and you don’t have to be a nib customer. We think that this is pretty amazing!

If you’re wanting to have a free check-up, these are the hotspots where the nib check-up truck will be situated:

Wynyard Quarter (Halsey Wharf) – Friday 12th & Saturday 13th January, 10:00am – 6:00pm
Mission Bay – Friday 19th & Saturday 20th January, 10:00am – 6:00pm
Avondale Market – Sunday 21st January, 6:00am - midday
