Beauty From The Inside Out

Yesterday afternoon I put up a post on Facebook and Instagram about Dr Libby's new book "Beauty From The Inside Out". I spoke about how I was reading the book and why I can relate to the content as I myself have been on a bit of a journey to fix my inner beauty. We received a lot of messages and emails from girls following the post saying how they are going through something similar and they asked what I did to help fix my problem.  That is what has sparked this blog post.  Just before I get into this all I want to say that what I have done is not something I am saying you should also do, I am simply sharing my journey as I know that there are other girls out there going through the same problems.  We are all largely made up of the same stuff but just how our parts operate inside us is what makes us so different.  What has worked for me may not work for you, so see this post as more of a sharing of information instead of a recommendation.

Just like most teenage girls I was on the pill for the later years of my teenage life.  At the age of 24 I made the decision to come off the pill as it made me feel hungry 24/7, moody, put on weight and I didn't like the idea of  ingesting artificial hormones for 3 weeks of every month.  To me that wasn't 'normal'.  About 6 months after coming off the pill I noticed that my skin was flaring up and I would get acne along my jaw line and chin.  My gynocologist recommended that I have a hormonal IUD (Marina) as it would help clear my skin up, it was perfectly safe and there were no side effects.  I was sold.

After about 3 months my skin problems had not gone away even though I was eating super healthy, exercising, doing everything that you think is right and no still changes. Back to my Doctor I went and she said to give it another 6 months so my body can get used to it.  Six months later and still no changes, in fact my skin had got even worse.  I went online in search for an answer and came across many online forums of women who were experiencing exactly the same problems as I was.  That was it for me, I needed to get this thing out.  After getting my marina taken out it was like a weight was lifted off my shoulders.  I felt instant relief.

My skin started slowing clearing up but I was still getting the odd break out on my chin which is a sign of sex hormone imbalance and breakouts on my jaw line which can sometimes mean poor digestive function.  Again, I knew that this wasn't normal and that my insides were giving me a message that they needed help.  This is when I knew I had to get the problem sorted so visited my Naturopath Daniela. Daniela put me on some herbs to help regulate my hormones as I have a very irregular and short cycle.  She also said that I may have leaky gut syndrome after explaining my symptoms to her so has put me on a probiotic, gut powder, taken me off dairy and gluten and I am awaiting results of my food allergy/intolerance test.

4 weeks later after following Daniela's programme and I feel like a new person.  Long gone are my cramps after eating meals, no more bloated stomach (I would sometimes look about 6 months pregnant!) and best of all my skin has completely cleared up.  Like I said yesterday it is amazing how small dietary changes and the introduction of herbs can have such a positive effect on your general health and wellbeing.  Knowing that something is wrong and having the feeling of not being able to fix yourself isn't great so I am thankful to Daniela and also my sister Libby for giving me guidance.

What prompted my initial Facebook post was the release of Dr Libby's book.

Beauty From The Inside Out has been explained so well on Dr Libby's website that I wanted to share with you what she says her book is all about.

"Beauty really is an inside job. How many of us stop to consider that our outer layer is merely a reflection of inner processes, completely reliant on the health of the 50 trillion cells that you are made of? And the health of those cells is impacted by everything from the food you eat, the nutrients present or missing from your blood, and the hormones and messages your body makes based on whether your thoughts are fearful or loving. Think about that…

As a society, our relationship with beauty is in crisis. We are told that beauty exists only in certain forms, images, and at certain ages. We can feel bombarded with images that lead us away from our own unique beauty and encourage us to try to look like someone else rather than become and accept more of who we are. While adults can be affected by such messages, these messages can be particularly damaging to children and teenagers who so desperately want to be loved, approved of, considered special, and seen as beautiful. There is so much beauty on offer to us 24/7, at any age, inside us, around us, and shining from us. For so many, a veil just needs to be lifted so you can experience your own radiance. Let’s see what we can do!

Beauty From The Inside Out explains your outer world, the food you choose, the nutrients you ingest, hydration, posture, movement and what your body needs to create lovely nails, lustrous hair, sparkling eyes, and clear, luminous skin. Be guided to deal with very specific bumps in the road, such as dark circles under the eyes, eczema, pimples, and hair that is falling out, just to name a few. Just as importantly, Dr Libby explains your inner world, sex hormones, stress hormones, detox, digestion, elimination pathways, thyroid and pituitary functions. Both worlds relate to your sparkle and by taking a heart-opening look at your emotional landscape because, for many, that is where the real elixir is"

Three chapters in and I am loving this book, everything is explained so well and in a way that you will understand the processes going on inside of you and what you can do to help any issues you may have.  We are precious beings and if something does not look right on the outside chances are that there is something not quite right on the inside.  Our bodies gives us signs, and whether that is in the form of a rash, acne, bloating etc don't just think "oh this is normal, it happens to everyone else", as normally it isn't normal to bloat after every meal.  It is your body letting you know that it needs a little bit of love.  That is what is so fantastic about this book, instead of reaching for a pill or cream to help with a skin issue, instead of spending money on expensive peels to achieve glowing skin you can work from the inside out and heal yourself with food.  You can learn which natural nutrient can be 15 times more powerful than benzoyl peroxide, the active ingredient in many acne medications and learn how digestion is linked to congested skin and acne plus much much more.

This book I will treasure forever and cannot thank Dr Libby enough for sharing with us all her incredible knowledge.  If you live in New Zealand you will find this book at most book stores and for those of you overseas you can pick up a copy on her website.
