Why juicing is so beneficial for your health.


The regular consumption of fresh vegetable juice is one of the most beneficial things you can do for your body. By consuming vegetable juice you are giving your body an instant boost of vitamins, minerals, enzymes and nutrients in a form that your body can digest easily. The nutrients from a vegetable juice will enter your bloodstream within 30 minutes of drinking it. Juicing is an easy way to get so many more vegetables into our diet, and to increase the amount of raw food we consume which increases our energy levels, boosts the immune system and helps detoxify the body of toxins (think chemical residue from food, pollutants from the air and cars)

Green juices contain high amounts of chlorophyll which is effective in helping the body detoxify. Chlorophyll helps detoxify the liver, helps rebuild our blood cells, remove parasites and may help in the prevention of cancer.

Vegetables juices using raw vegetables are extremely alkaline for our body. It is highly beneficial to ensure that your body does not become over acidic as over-acidity is the common theme and cause of almost all conditions of ill health. An alkaline body can resist and fight disease better than one that is acidic. Just one glass of vegetable juice can revitalize the body and raise your pH levels to be alkaline once again.

Vegetable juice has high levels of antioxidants. Antioxidants are a group of vitamins, minerals and enzymes that help to enhance our health. They help to neutralize free radicals, which are unstable molecules that attack cells and leave them vulnerable to diseases. Drinking one glass of vegetable juice improves the body’s use of oxygen so the muscles and brain are energized.

People who consume vegetable juices daily have noticed an improvement in many skin conditions such as eczema, dryness, oiliness and acne. Their nails grew stronger and their hair grew thicker and stronger with decreased thinness, dryness and dandruff. They noticed an increase in energy and fewer allergies.

Drinking a vegetable juice daily can improve the body’s ability to burn fat.  People who are juicing are likely eating less processed and junk food, feeling better and having more energy, and as a result are more active, which would contribute to losing excess weight. Having a vegetable juice in the morning will kick-start your metabolism and stabilize blood sugar levels which will reduce sugar cravings.

When juicing it is best to use organically grown vegetables this is because you will not be getting pesticides and other chemical residues in your juice. If you are not using organically grown vegetables then you will always want to remove the peel of the vegetables.

Unless you are doing a juice fast or detox program it is unwise to use juicing as a meal replacement. Ideally it can be consumed with your meal or as a snack. We prefer to have ours before breakfast.

Vegetable juices should have around 70% vegetables and 30% fruit so it’s not too high in fruit sugars (frustose). Our favorite juice recipe is

1x beetroot 1x cup of spinach or kale 1x lemon or lime 1x apple bunch of coriander 2.5 cm cube of fresh ginger to boost circulation.

Julia and I are starting a Raw Juice Cleanse on Thursday called the PHD cleanse.  It’s a 3 day cleanse where you drink 6 different juices a day.  As juice fasts are the norm for us we are going to be doing the Advanced Cleanse but there is also a Basic Cleanse which would be great for anyone wanting to give juice cleansing a go.  Great for kick starting weight loss and getting rid of toxin build up.  We will give you daily reports on how the cleanse is going for us to give you a little insight into how it all works.
